In literacy, our main focus will be on emergent writing and reviewing blending and segmenting skills. In Math, we will learn about Measurement and sorting 3D shapes by attributes. If your child has not mastered the letters and their sounds please continue to practice every night. Year-end assessments will take place in the last two weeks of May. To be at Grade level students need to know all of the letters and their sounds by the end of May. We are desperately looking for volunteers for our year-end walks and field trips. We will need to cancel if we do not meet our student/adult ratio for our walks/field trips. If you are able to help out please make sure your volunteer paperwork is in by May 15th at the latest, as administration needs time to process your paperwork.

March is a short and busy month in Kindergarten. We have wrapped up our comparing numbers unit and will be reviewing patterns for the next few weeks. Once we complete our patterns unit we will dive back into developing our number sense, with an emphasis placed on creating and decomposing numbers to ten using the part-part-whole method. In literacy, we continue to build our phonological awareness with an emphasis placed on blending and segmenting sounds into words, and words into sounds. We have also started to learn how to read and write our Kindergarten Sight Word List. We are also spending time working on writing. In Kindergarten, this means, drawing pictures, and adding words, or letters to our pictures. In Social Studies, we continue to focus on examining what makes us unique individuals by exploring and reflecting upon the following questions for inquiry: What are my gifts, interests, talents, and characteristics? In Science, we will start our last unit on Earth Systems: Understandings of the living world, Earth, and space are deepened by investigating natural systems and their interactions. Emphasis will be placed on making observations and asking questions. We would like to wish all our families a Happy New Year and to welcome you back to school!
