Even in Kindergarten our students use technology as a tool to aid them with their learning. Technology is essential to facilitate creative problem solving, information fluency, critical thinking skills and collaboration that we see in today's world. While we want our students to be active contributors in our connected world, we also want them to be safe and responsible when using technology.
Therefore we have been teaching the Kindergarten students about Digital Citizenship. Digital Citizenship is all about instilling responsibility and developing skills for online learning. As teachers and parents, we need to help our children develop a deep awareness of the online connected world, and how to safely work and learn in this exciting new environment. We are working hard to ensure that our students understand that online behavior has permanent offline consequences.
On Thusday, October 20th all of the Kindergarten classes gathered together in Ms. Yvonne's class for an interactive presentation on Digital Citizenship. Click on the Digital Citizenship Presentation below to learn more about what the students were taught about Digital Citizenship and to view our presentation. Home connection: Ask your child to tell you what they learned about staying safe when using devices and going on-line.
Kindergarten Classroom Promises
Ms. Serena's Classroom Promise A classroom promise does more than set expectations, it has the power to set a tone of kindness and good behavior that lasts for the entire school year. We began to build our classroom on Meet the Teacher Night! Each family contributed to our classroom promise by writing a few words or a phrase to describe their child. The cards that parents filled out were used to frame our promise and symbolize our commitment to keeping our promise! As a class we sat down and talked about what a promise is, who can make promises, and why it is important to keep promises. Then we read some stories about kindness, and decided what pictures should go under each heading. Once our promise was complete we read our classroom promise together as a group. Then, as a symbol of our agreement, each child's picture was hung. Our promise is hung by the carpet in our classroom. We will refer back to our classroom promise to solve problems, and to learn about ourselves and each other. It will also serve as a reminder that it is important to treat ourselves, each other, and our learning space with care and kindness all year long.
Ms. Yvonne's Classroom Promise Here is a picture of our classroom promise. We talked about being a good friend, the seven habits, the zones, be kind, share, use kind words, and be a kind friend- and overall—smile!
Ms. Carleigh's Classroom Promise
Ms. Carleigh's Classroom Promise: After listening to a few stories about kindness and a class discussion, the students decided on a classroom promise of: I promise to keep my classroom safe, I promise to keep my hands to myself, I promise to clean-up when the teacher says to, I promise to use kind words, I promise to listen to my teachers. Everyone got to add their picture to our promise to show that they will try their best to keep our classroom promise.

Kindergarten Curriculum - What's To Expect This Month In Kindergarten Social and Personal Responsibility - 7 Habits This month is all about getting to know each other and establishing a classroom culture. Our main emphasis will be on making friends, learning to work and play together, and learning our classroom routines. Each class will also write a classroom promise.
Language Learning begins with our names We will start to learn the letters of the alphabet through learning the letters in our name. In Kindergarten we learn to write our names using an uppercase letter at the beginning followed by all lowercase letters. If your child can name 6/52 letters of the alphabet in September he/she is meeting the September literacy benchmarks for letter recognition. The December benchmark for letter recognition is 20/52 letters and 20/52 letter sounds. On Friday, September 16th we will be sending home information on our ABC Boot Camp Program. Please read over the information as there is a home learning component invovled.
Numeracy begins with exploring numbers, colors, shapes, and sorting. Your child will learn these skills through stories and play based activities.
Friendly Reminders
Due to safety issues, there is no parking in the staff parking lot
If students arrive at school early they should gather at their door until we open. Please do not let your child "play" in the parking lot as Wolf Creek Staff are driving in and out of the parking lot at various times throughout the day.
Please remember to send a nutritious snack, not a lunch, with your child each day. We ask that snacks contain no nuts.
Please email your child's teacher, or call the office, if your child is going to be absent, or if your child is going to be picked-up by a person that is not on your child's pick-up form.
Always keep the office informed of all demographic changes such as phone number changes, emergency contact changes, etc.
Scholastic books orders will be sent home monthly. This is an optional program.
Please label all shoes, boots, snack bags, backpacks and jackets—this will help with any mix-ups
If you have questions or concerns, please, always let your teacher know first.
If you have questions or concerns please do not hesitate to email or call your child's teacher at anytime (403) 885-4646.
