Hello parents if your child is away due to illness or isolation requirements here are some ideas, activities, and resources that you can use to continue Kindergarten learning while your child is away. Pick the ones that will work for you and your child. Keep it easy! Keep it fun!
Read to Your Child Everyday
Practice Letters and Sounds If your child has not mastered all of the letters and sounds choose 5-6 letters to focus letter practice on. Make sure your child is telling you the letter name and sound.
Keep it fun by making a game out of it
Sing the ABC Song
Find things at home that start with the letters you are practicing.
Have them build letters out of playdo, or draw letters in the sand, or in shaving cream
Write letters on paper and have your child trace them in markers or crayons, while they are tracing over the letter say the letters name and sound.
Write uppercase and lowercase letters on paper, cut them out, and ask your child to match the lowercase letters to the uppercase letters.
Play Memory. The goal is to find the matching letters - write lower and uppercase letters on paper, cut them out, place them facedown, take turns flipping over two letters, the goal is to find a matching set.
Find the letters you are practicing in books.
Sing Who Let the Letters Out with your teachers. Make sure to say the letter names and do the actions.
Sight Words, Home Reading, and Letter Review If your child has mastered the letters and sounds:
Review letters and sounds - place emphasis on fluency- producing the letter name and sound quickly and accurately - Continue to review on the ones your child can not recall automatically.

Students can practice printing their names...starting with an uppercase letter, followed by all lowercase letters,
Students can build their names, or the names of others by making a name puzzles - this is done by printing a name on a piece of paper and cutting theP letters apart, so they can build their name-have them tell you all the letters in the name, and point at each letter as they say it.
Sorting and Patterns

Look for patterns around the house. Create patterns out of things you find around the house. Have your child copy and extend patterns too.
Counting and Number Recognition In Kindergarten we focus on teaching students to count outloud to at least 15.
Encourage your child to count items in groups up to 10. They can count ojbects found around the house-work on 1:1 correspondence - touching each item while they count
Work on number recognition. Play the letter recognition games listed above, but substitute the numbers 1-10 fot letters.
Fine Motor Skill Development
Draw, Paint, Color, Play playdough, Pick things up with tweezers or other pinchers
